The mineral aggregate heliotrope also known as bloodstone, is a cryptocrystalline mixture of quartz that occurs mostly as jasper. The "classic" bloodstone is opaque green jasper with red inclusions of hematite. The red inclusions may resemble spots of blood, hence the name bloodstone.
